Aries Personality Traits and Character + what's beyond the stereotypes?

Today, let’s talk about Aries.

Aries is the very first sign of the zodiac. Their the little “baby” of the zodiac, hoho.

Aries has the reputation of being full of energy, of being brave and of craving to create their own path in life.

Aries can be a tad selfish, not because they’re mean or anything, but simply because if they see something they want, they’ll just charge head on. They won’t take the time to look around them and check if maybe someone else is interested in that toy across the room. Maybe someone is even already playing with it.

No. Aries is like, “oh, shiny toy,” I’ll grab it. They don’t care about social norms or politeness. Which can be great.

And it’s not because they’re being mean or selfish, it’s just that they’re very straightforward.

So that’s the basic stereotypes about Aries.

But, are they true? And if so, why?

Have you ever wondered why a certain sign is said to have this kind of personality?

If so, you’re in the right place, because today we’ll be checking out the 3 essential things to know in order to understand any zodiac sign.

Today, we’ll dive into the true nature of Aries.

Diving in the Zodiac: the true nature of Aries!

In order to understand, at a basic level, any sign, you only need to know their element, mode and ruling planet.

Of course, you can add more glitter and sparkles, astrology is full of glitter and sparkles, but that’s the foundations of a sign.

Let’s start with the element.

1. The Element: Fire

There are 4 elements in astrology: fire, earth, air and water. And Aries is a fire sign.

Of course. Aries is so fiery.

What interest fire signs, what they do instinctively is they try to express their individuality and their unique creativity.

They like to affirm themselves as individuals out in the world

That doesn’t mean that they can’t or never do other stuff. Like, water signs are all about relating to others. Of course that fire signs can do that to, but relating isn’t what comes the most naturally to them.

It’s not their instinct.

It’s like, if you’re right handed, fire is their right hand and water their left hand. Sure they can use their left hand, but if they have to react quickly, without thought, it’s they’re right hand that they’ll use. Always.

So fire really fits Aries. It’s an independent sign who chases after what they desire, without much thought about anything else.

Fire is very direct, exactly like Aries.

So let’s check out the mode now.

2. The Mode: cardinal

There are 3 modes in astrology: cardinal, fixed and mutable.

Every sign of the same element receives its own little mode. So we’ve got 3 signs of the same element, so they each have their own mode. No one is jealous. Very convenient.

Aries is cardinal. And here again, it’s perfect.

Cardinal is the mode of the signs that start a season.

Aries is the 1st sign of the zodiac because it’s the spring equinox. It’s the start of life after the long winter. It’s the symbolic start of a new year.

Cardinal signs gave this quality of it’s a new season where everything is new and beginning. Those signs like to create and initiate.

The mode of Aries really reinforces its fire, because fire is already a super active principle.

If we compare it to earth, water or air, fire is clearly the most BOOM.

Very eloquent, I know. So BOOM fire, and boom cardinal. It’s an explosion.

Aries releases all its fire in one shot. It’s super dynamic. Aries likes to be on their own and to just go, go, go by following whatever they feel like following.

Clearly, with fire and cardinal, Aries has a huge capacity to mobilize loads of energy at once. But it has to give all this energy in one burst.

That’s why Aries is often mocked, gently, of course, as lacking delicacy or subtlety. It’s hard for them to take a step back. It’s either everything or nothing.

And in addition to that, the ruling planet of Aries is Mars.

3. The Ruling Planet

You’ve probably heard of Mars, the god or goddess of war. Mars loves action and fight. If you’re more the peace and love kind, you’ll still feel Mars whenever you’re irritated or anxious.

Mars is that energy in you that you want to put outside in the world or do something with.

You feel Mars when you’re doing your favorite sports or even your favorite “competitive” video game. Competitive, like it can simply be Mario Kart.

Mars is the will to win, to be right or dominate.

It’s when you’re arguing with someone, and you know that you’re going nowhere, that the other one won’t agree, but still, you can’t help it, you keep arguing.

Mars is also the capacity to be brave and to speak out for yourself. When at a family dinner your uncle says again a racist or homophobic joke, it’s Mars that helps you to speak up, even though it’s very uncomfortable.

Even though you know you’re just going to ruin the family meal.

Mars is ready to push through anything. For the best or for the worst.

4. A Conclusion, kind of

To be frank, Aries’ reputation is sound. It stays well within the 3 foundations of a sign: the element, mode and planet.

Aries is brave, likes to act and seldom hesitates or plan.

Aries tends to concentrate on just that one thing they want, really, really hard and with all their might, which allows them to achieve incredible stuff.

But it means that they can also forget their surroundings and the people around them. They can seem rude and selfish. They can also miss obvious details or forget important stuff.

But really, this isn’t done in a conscious way. It’s just that there so engrossed in whatever their plan or desire is.

Because they have so much energy and willpower, Aries is the sign of the zodiac that’s the most prone to burnout. So take care of yourself, little Aries out there.

Or Aries can get really fed up with something they were passionate about only last week, because they burn very fast. It’s not that they’re fickle, because when they were into that thing, they were seriously into it.

However, to qualify a bit this very bold and bright image of Aries, I think Aries can be very different depending on the ‘cause’ they’re fighting for.

Because with Mars as their ruling planet, Aries really get motivated by a certain mission or goal. And if this mission is taking care of my kids or becoming a yoga teacher, well, the fiery vibe of Aries will be tampered down.

The energy of Aries can adapt itself to its needs. It can also become patient and very attentive. Even though, granted, it will be a bit harder.

The archetype of Aries really is this massive amount of energy that can be mobilized at once and focused on one precise goal.

And the intensity of this energy can be controlled and adapted to the goal of Aries.

5. The End

Of course, there are also some other stuff that modify the archetype of Aries in your birth chart.

If for instance, there’s a planet in the sign of Aries or if another planet is making a strong aspect to Aries, that’s going to change how Aries manifests itself in you and your life.

After all we’re never only one zodiac sign, but the whole of our birth chart.

And, if you want to learn how to read a birth chart by yourself, in a fun and easy way (hopefully), I’ve made an astrology booklet, specially for you.

Here's a summary of the key info on Aries.

And on that note, I’d like to offer a toast to all the Aries among us, may you succeed in your mission. And of course a toast to all the other zodiac signs!

Cheers,

Jin
